Davida Samenski has done it again. Five stars to her newest creation, Redemption’s Price.
Jocelyne Blackstone thinks she’s escaped her past and moved on to a new and better life by moving to Redemption, Texas far from the coastal North Carolina where she was born. And it’s true, until she looks up to find Rafe standing there. Rafe Walker is on a mission set by Jocelyne’s father to find her and bring her back to face justice. He doesn’t question his mentor; besides he believes the worst about her. He was there to see it himself. She ruined his life and it’s time she pays. Ms. Samenski has drawn a rich historical in the background of the American west, with enough mystery to keep you wondering and filled with fully fleshed characters with flaws and foibles that truly exist. No spoilers, but my highest recommendation. Don’t miss this one.

Down In the Valley by Jane Shoup

A great read with deep, fully rounded characters. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting these people and following their adventures. Em is a strong woman who’s willing to take a chance to be free and love on her own. Tommy has suffered as well, maybe more, and has learned to believe what was said to and about him. Together these two damaged people discover their possibilities. Jane Shoup is a relatively new author for me, but I’ve become a fan and will be checking out more of her books.

This was my first Motorcycle Club book and I’m already anxiously awaiting Harris’s next book. When a proper lady and CPA of all things collapses at Dog’s feet he’s drawn into caring for and about someone outside his spectrum. He’s a bare knuckles fighter, gritty and not the kind of guy that would normally be attracted to someone like Charley. Fortunately that doesn’t slow him down at all. A great book in a new-to-me genre. Highest recs!!

Hearts of Carolina: a Charity Romance Anthology by HCRW Writers

I love North Carolina – it has everything from mountains to coast – reading stories all based there was wonderful. I saw some names I recognized and enjoy and some new names that I know I’ll be buying the future.
Samantha Covington is a new author. Her paranormal romance about finding someone with the same powers was fresh and engaging. Laurel McMacken, also new to you, had a contemporary romance that brought my beloved mountains to the forefront. I’m definitely looking for more from her. B.L. Harris’s gritty MC romance was intriguing (I’m not an MC romance reader normally) but I will be checking to see what she does next. Maggie Preston’s internet sci fi off the coast was fascinating and I didn’t see the end coming. I always like that.
Linda Tiffin’s second work was as good as the first and I’m anxiously awaiting her second book. LaVerne St. George’s contemporary was very timely and fascinating and of course Laura Browning has been a favorite for years – the scene in the back yard… well you need to read it! I don’t review my own, but I really enjoyed writing about the Brown Mountain Lights – which has been part of my mythology all my life. Highest recs!

Dianne Duvall has been a one-click purchase for me since the beginning and this new series is just as good as the Immortal Guardian series. Of course Dagon is as yummy as all of her heroes, but Eliana stole the show for me in this one – her interactions with the crew of the Ranasura had me laughing out loud at times. Highest recs and if Dianne’s writing is new to you, congratulations. You have a ride ahead of you!

The Last Straw by Sharon Sala

Charlie and Wyrick drew me in again with the 4th book in the Jigsaw Files. I love their interaction and growing relationship. Since Wyrick revealed her past to the world, Charlie’s protectiveness has endeared him even more to me. While an excellent end to the series, I’m going to miss these guys. Ms. Sala really captured these characters and made them people I wanted to know. Fortunately I have a lot of other books from her I can catch up on.

Davida Samenski has hit it out of the park. The book starts with a bang and doesn’t let up. They were split apart by circumstances beyond their control and kept that way. When Phin first sees Caro, his mistress’s dressmaker something pricks his memory and the writing makes that work. If you enjoy Regency and seeing the Ton get their due, you’ll really enjoy this one, highest recs.

I’ve read all of Jim Hime’s books and was happy to find one I’d missed. This was not the book I expected, it was so much more. An amazing insight into the demons that haunt and format a person’s life. His father hurt him, Viet Nam shaped him, then came 9/11. I learned a lot more than I expected, the research on this book astounds me. My highest recommendations –I’m giving it 5 stars because I can’t give it 6.

Noah Allred has returned to Mountain Meadows but not the way he wanted. I’ve been following the Mountain Meadows family for some time and was delighted when Noah got his own book. He’s messed up and angry, not even sure he wants to continue. When Amanda Brown gives him no slack, it makes it worse, for a while. These characters are fully formed and intriguing. It can be read as a stand-alone and still give you a taste of the community you’ll want to know better. Highest recs!

I love the ‘encounter’ in the airport – having suffered a fall like that, I’m glad she had a better time than I did! The fact that Reece steps up immediately gave me a better feeling about him, that though he’s famous, he remembers his manners and upbringing. I really enjoyed their banter and ease with one another. The brother was a true wank and perfect villain. Highly recommended! Enjoy yourself with this one.

For LGBTQ month I want to highly recommend Guarded Hearts. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed gay romance—at least CL’s gay romance. I met Marine Sergeant Wren de Lassy in The Danegeld before he joined the marines and this is a continuation of his story. The first day at MARSOC Command he meets Geordy Campbell, his new roommate. Okay, they’re both gay, but neither dates fellow marines. Yet.
These are strong, fully formed characters with their own shadows and past. If you haven’t read gay romance before, this is the perfect one to dip your toe in.

This is the second book in the Heaven-Sent Warriors by Nancy Lee Badger. A paranormal story centered around the Raleigh Museum and the Rodin statues that reside there. This Alexander and Gwendolyn’s story—he’s a Highlander completely out of his time and she’s Fae trying to get past a trauma. As with the first story, a demon has escaped into our world causing Alexander to leave the Rodin statue that houses him in order to save humanity. I really need to make a trip to this museum.
Ms. Badger knows her paranormal and her highlanders and weaves them together well in this series. Keep going, I need to see what happens in #3!

Christmas Revels V: Four Regency Novellas by Hannah Meredith

I had the privilege of reading Christmas Revels V early. Four regency Christmas novellas by Anna D. Allen, Kate Parker, Hannah Meredith and Louisa Cornell. I’m very familiar with and love the works of Ms. Parker and Ms. Meredith, but Ms. Allen and Ms. Cornell were new to me.
I love a good Christmas story and a good mystery/suspense story. I got four of them with this book.
In Mr. Hunt’s Christmas Caller I got a strong woman who learned when to be honest and express her feelings, something that happens too infrequently in novels and real life. In The Christmas Gamble, the mystery of the missing Earl overshadows Christmas and wrecks havoc on Lizzie’s engagement. The Gnome and the Christmas Star is the story of an older couple and proves that love isn’t just for the young.
And A Perfectly Ridiculous Christmas had me laughing out loud. Four totally different but all delightful stories. My highest recs on this one. Don’t miss it!

I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Laura Browning, but this couple really caught my attention. They’re about as different as people could be and their meeting is anything but storybook, but they meld whether they want to or not. Her music has always been Pippi’s life and though from a lower middle class family she had achieved Julliard until she was needed to help look after her father. Phillip is used to privilege and power as part of an upper class family. With the election just days away and Pippi’s life in danger their chemistry is put to the test. Check this one out!

Ms. Hadyn has done it again. This different take on the vampire “curse” is her latest. I’ve read everything she’s written and each book seems to expand Ms. Hadyn’s abilities. In this book Prince Janos is caught between his honor and his heart. He’s pledged to marry a woman that he not only doesn’t love, but doesn’t even like and the feeling is mutual. The Baroness Beatrix, hired to paint miniatures as a pre-nuptial gift to his fiancée, has taken his heart. His fiancée’s mother is no better, condemning him as a soulless abomination, a revenant or vampire. He cannot reveal the true nature of his being but honor holds him prisoner. My highest recommendations for this and any of Ms. Hadyn’s work – you won’t regret it!

But that’s just the beginning to the freakish existence that now surrounds Calista, that she must endure until the goddess thinks she has it right. Come on in, the water’s fine!

Wild Sky by Suzanne Brockmann

I’ve grown to really like the characters in the Sky series. I’m not a major YA fan but some people pull me in – Elena Dillon, Sarra Cannon and now Suzanne & Melanie Brockmann. The kids in the Sky series are fully formed characters and yes the angst is there but it doesn’t overwhelm the story. The Greater-Thans, kids with powers above a normal human, are being kidnapped and used to create a drug that makes anyone young and beautiful—for a time, before it kills them violently and everyone else within range of them as they die. Sky and her crew are trying to find and save other GTs but they’re a band of kids up against a well-funded conspiracy. It’s a race and not an even one. I admit I love Calvin. He reminds me of Xander in the Buffy series-the normal one who holds them together though in this book he gets to play more on the main stage. Check out this series, you’ll get hooked too.

Patrick’s son has been burned in a car crash which also killed his wife. Kate is one of the doctor’s working on the child. The two don’t especially like each other—Patrick is pure alpha, former Navy Seal and macho as they come. Kate is an excellent doctor but hampered by her past when it comes to the personal. I enjoyed the sparks when they came together. Wish it had continued a little longer!

When the Krewe team is called into a missing person case outside of New Orleans, Jake takes the lead because his former love is right in the middle of the case. This is the second Krewe book and I found it a little hard to keep everyone straight. The names were a little too similar in a couple of instances and I had to go back to make sure I had it all straight. Still enjoyed the story and plan to head into #3 soon.

Now Taliesin is back, grown, prosperous and even more devastatingly handsome, to celebrate the wedding of their stepfather and once again caught by the beautiful Eleanor that he could never forget. Ms. Ashe can certainly draw you into a story. You can see I read mostly paranormal, but when I take a break I always know where to look.

I had this one on pre-order and will the next one as well. Ms. Duvall can suck me into a story faster than a vampire can suck blood. My only problem is I read faster than she writes. This is Ethan’s story – he’s been out of luck on the couple scene since Zach showed up and took Lisette by storm.
Heather is a gifted-one with telepathy as her gift along with, suddenly dreams that seem to be precognitive – a new twist. And she’s been seeing Ethan in those dreams for a year. Mix in Aiden and some of the others and you have the perfect mix. My highest recommendation. If you’ve not found the Immortal Guardian series, you’re in for a treat!

I don’t read women’s literature as rule, but I do enjoy Ms. LaPonzina’s. I had to look up bibliotherapy and found out it’s quite an extensive form of therapy of which I was unfamiliar. Rhose Guerin is caught in the middle of a generational gap – looking after her failing mother as her daughter is dealing with a new career and man. And Rhose wants to continue her education to grow herself and possibly move out of a marriage that has gone stale. This is a different kind of coming of age book with a lot of insight, you might learn a lot about yourself. Check it out.

This may be my favorite of the Cassie books so far. That would be due to Sue. The ordeal that is the center of this book isn’t just Cassie’s and Sue very plainly puts that out, standing up to Tom and putting him in his place. That’s not something that happens often and I admit I delighted in it. And for a change the fault really isn’t Cassie’s! If you haven’t started this series yet, get on the wagon.

Ms. Graham hit all the right notes on this one –new team, New Orleans, paranormal, old evil. She sucked me right in. Jackson Crow has a new team after losing his last one, though he was able to save some of them through paranormal help. Now he had to go back into the field with a brand new team, including policewoman Angela Hawkins who knows a thing or two about the paranormal herself. Intriguing new series for me – I will be following it.

This is one of my favorites in the series. We all know that guy – the sniveling, ‘it’s not my fault’ guy that too often gets away with it. And the luck Jerry had in this book seems to follow them around. Eve knows who did it, but knowing who’s next is the problem. The list of potentials is astronomical. It’s always fun to see Roarke’s family show up too, reminding Eve she’s never going to be alone again – marriage rules. If you’re following this series – don’t miss this one.

I believe this is my favorite of the series. When Niall is rescued by pirates after falling into the sea to escape being captured by his father’s men, he discovers the captain to not only be a woman, but Blair speaks like the strange women he’s heard recently that rumor has it are from the future. Keegan, Blair’s ward looks a little too like him for comfort and his SOB father and laird, Angus are still in the mix. A great series I’m sorry to see ending!

If you haven’t gotten hooked on this series yet, now’s the time to get started so we can stalk Ms. Bear together for the next chapter.

This was a new type of historical for me – not set in England and not holding to any of the regency guidelines I’m used to. It reminded me of Cyn Haydn’s Candle on the Beach with that twist to the historical I look for. China during the regency period didn’t seem to have a positive view of the English and the English reciprocated. When a very naïve Lydia Smith makes her solitary way to China to find her fiancée she find a whole lot more. Sold into slavery not as a sex toy, but as a way to find religious ecstasy teaches her a whole new way of thinking. A very clever and new way to look at the period. Enjoy!

I’ve been hoping for a Dev story and she did not disappoint. The powers of evil have new weapons and powers that need to be investigated, and Nick may be at the middle of it all. Great next chapter in the series.

Simon is the perfectly sexy and gorgeous leading man that no one knows on the inside. Gail is the straight laced career woman about to lose her business because of what she assumes are Simon’s dealings. When they join forces, both learn a lot about the other. A good beach read.

Ms. Duvall has done it again. This time the immortal guardians are merely a dream in Seth’s eye. She has gone back to the beginning introducing the gifted ones. Alyssa has been at Lord Dillon’s side for years though he does not know it. Lord Dillon believes his trusted advisor, the one woman that doesn’t cringe at his reputation as warrior, is the same woman that served his father and grandfather. It takes near disaster for his to discover that woman’s granddaughter is the one that intrigues him so from the shadows. So good to see some old friends from the present show up as well. As always my highest recommendation! Please keep ‘em coming.

Several plots going here, because Ms. Hadyn knows how to twist her plots – someone is trying to assassinate the blue dragon king, a gang of shifters is using Poseidon’s seas for smuggling and then there’s Tix. Ms. Brown certainly knows how to craft a story. The book within a book for Envy was masterful. And she does create a great villain, even when you’re not sure which one is the villain. Noah reminded me of the movie Rope by Hitchcock with his certainty that he deserved wealth, esteem and to win by right. Parker was a more difficult character to decide about. And the twist of who was who at the end was worth the whole book. A must read, sit back.

This is the story of Fang and Aimee, a wolf and a bear that obviously can’t be together – interspecies, remember, but drawn to one another as with no one else. I knew a lot of this story from previous Kenyon works, but I was glad to finally find out what was going on with Fang all those months he was “gone.” He hadn’t seemed the type to disappear into grief regardless of circumstances. Seeing the same story from a different view gave me a lot more insight. And I’ll be continuing this series!

In this, Cassie’s 6th book, she seems to be settling down – no strike that, can’t happen – but she is thoughtful about her relationships, using flashbacks to tell us about the important people in her life. Especially the man who had become like a son to her, Ryan and the young woman they introduced to him, Allie. It’s interesting watching this young couple take their cues from more experienced, if not necessarily “mature” influences. Yes, I’m talking about you, Sue. If you’re into DD, this is the series to read.

In order to get rid of her quickest, Declan solicits the help of his aunt and cousin, lays a huge dowry on her, and makes her the belle of the season. Great if all you’re interested in is the money. Those twinges he feels watching other men, wrong men, fawn over her have nothing to do with jealousy. Ms. Jordan leads you on many twists in this story that adds so much to the characters. Put up your feet and enjoy!

Taken by her, Richart takes her home, tucks her in and leaves, but makes her his special project to keep safe. Before he knows it, they make friends and then begin dating. She’s worried she’s too old for him with a grown son in medical school. This is a short story to bring Richart’s relationship to us and I was delighted to finally get his story. I’ve already caught up with his twin and sister, along with the whole Immortal Guardian gang. I love this series – Ms. Duvall, please keep ‘em coming!

He’s recovering from his wounds, but has been told he’ll never have the eyesight to be a sniper again. Which means his career, his future and basically his life is over. Needing time to heal, a former commander offers him a temp job to see how deep the corruption in his small police force goes.
Teamed together by the former commander Sam’s secret reason for being there causes problems, but June still manages to worm her way into his consciousness, and life. I was delighted with this story. The characters were well crafted and I felt like they could walk into my home at any time. And knowing small towns all too well, this could be happening right now at home. This was my first Emilie Rose book – believe me, it won’t be my last!

This is Paula at her best, several mysteries woven together, fast paced with truly human-flawed characters. Check this one out!

Chase Sullivan just happens to be in the right place at the right time to rescue Chloe on the side of the road. He’s on his way to his rich brother’s winery and takes her along since her POS car is damaged and it’s raining. I have to say things happen really fast after that. I believe it’s the pace of the book that troubled me. Chloe is beaten up by her ex, falls into the arms of the next man in less than 48 hours after he’s caught her pleasuring herself in her tub. Dealing with real life waited until the very end of the book. I enjoy Ms. Andre’s writing but I wanted less perfection and more reality in this story.

Roxy isn’t about to let that stop her, regardless of the consequences to herself. Loved that twist at the end. A perfect read for a Sunday afternoon.

Her mother has been gone since her birth and Dad is often out doing whatever snipers do, so she’s learned to be independent. Neither are prepared for immediate heat. When Libby’s father is captured while deployed, the government fears she might become a target of the people holding her father. Shoved together against their will, Chase and Libby have to learn compromise and to live with the surprises life gives them. Check this one out!

Ms. Kenyon didn’t hit this one out of the park for me. Stryker, while an interesting character, didn’t pull me into the story, and I felt like a lot of new characters had been added that I had to scramble to get to know. You really have to have taken notes of the previous history to understand this one. I love this series and will continue, but this one, aside from the alliance of Stryker, Acheron and Nick, felt a little flat.

I do enjoy historical regency with a twist and this one has a twist. Belinda, because of circumstances beyond her control, has become a demon hunter. Gabriel might have come home from the wars expecting his genteel and proper companion, but life as he knew it is over. This is my first Fenichel, but I’ll be back. A great read and definitely different from your “normal” historical romance.

I’ve been waiting to read this one. I’m trying to go in order, and this one kept pulling at me. The history of Acheron and what he had to endure to become the head of the Dark Hunters with his compassion and insight was a story I wanted to read. It did NOT disappoint! Acheron’s intense desire to keep his past secret came through loud and clear. Eleven thousand years is not enough to erase the memories of his mortal life and the degradation and torture it held. Then enter Dr. Soteria Kafieri. Tori isn’t going to let a little thing like his secrets get in her way of learning more about this man. And Acheron is more than a little intrigued that she can withstand the sexual pull he has on the rest of the human population. I’m glad I waited, because I knew the world Ms. Kenyon has built, and this was worth the wait.

Okay – not to give any spoilers means stopping here because there’s tons of stuff we learn about this universe in this book. Don’t miss it!

Of course I come into the series on book three – and there are things I need to find out from the previous two, but I got into the story fairly quickly. Maddie is close to being “on the shelf” and not necessarily unhappy about it. She wants her independence and the opportunity to write novels. Christian has known her for years and seemed to be only mildly aware of her until very recently. Now he moves forward as her knight in shining armor, if she’d wanted one. I found the sexual tension and the independence she displays in this book slightly ahead of its time for an historical, but I did enjoy the story.

Talk about world building. These two authors have created such a rich and diverse world. I had to read a couple of chapters to get my feet under me, but even then I had to know more and where they were going. This does not read like a debut novel. Giles Carwyn and Todd Fahnestock have created a fascinating society. Brophy, son of the Brother of Autumn, is the focus of this first book in the series. He is coming of age in a stressful time, betrayed by his aunt’s foreign-born husband who has usurped his father’s place, cast out of his home, and forced into a deadly game to save his life and his home. Swords, sex magic, a sleeping child – you need to check this out.

When Jacob Oliver starts on his hike up the mountain with that bad leg, I knew there are problems ahead. Of course spotting the beautiful nude swimmer is a plus but still you can feel the problems coming. And when the beautiful nude swimmer turns out to be his rescuer, Destiny Blake takes on a larger presence is Jacob’s life – whether he wants it or not.
This is a thriller, there are several men after Destiny with thoughts of lust and possession and you don’t know who until the end. I like not being able to figure out who, and I admit I had to get under the blankets to read parts, because you could feel the cold and the fear as Ms. Badger wrote it. You don’t have to wait for the heat of the beach sun, but keep an afghan nearby, and sit back to enjoy!

I liked Ellen from the first sentence – she knew she’d made a mistake leaving the house without a book – my kind of woman, but in this case it certainly leads to good things. Sam is pretending to be his best friend TS and that kicks the story off well, with mistaken identities that lead to a twist I didn’t see ahead of time. This is a pure romantic suspense with one of Ms. Brockman’s incredible and humanly flawed heroes. Put your feet up and enjoy.

Ms. Kenyon brought in some new characters I hadn’t met before and wove them into the universe seamlessly. Learning what it is to be a shade, and even more about Ash’s background was intriguing and I liked Alexion. I’d like to see more of him in the future. You’ll need a little background before delving into this book, but it’s no hardship to read the Darkhunter’s series, so get started now!

Dallas and Roarke are back and still dealing with the aftermath of New York to Dallas but this book is back to work with a focus on the case. A mass murderer has shown them how coolly they can take out massive amounts of people. But Dallas with the help of the team she has grown around her, now friends as well, doesn’t give an inch. It was great to show a new layer to Summerset. I’d taken a short break from the In Death books and it good to be back. I know I’ll get a great story.

At least not that he’s admitting. With the help of other time travelers, a secretive brownie, and at least one powerful witch the two attempt to stay one step ahead of the old Laird and untangle their feelings for each other. Great series if you’re into tartan!

As this was my first ‘inspirational’ I wasn’t sure what to expect. But what I got was a lot of fun and a very sweet story. Of course I come in on the 3rd book in the trilogy, but that didn’t hamper my enjoyment at all. Lucinda is very nearly on the shelf and pleased about it. She’s a strong, independent woman constrained by her time and conventions. A husband will only hamper her ambitions more. James is the rogue her sister Emily has set her cap on, but he’s just having a good time. Until Emily moves things in an unforeseen direction. When Lucinda tries to rescue the situation everything spirals out of hand, and James begins to realize he may have made the wrong decision. Throw in three sets of parents determined to see their children wed and…well, a wonderful read during your Christmas holidays!

If you follow my reviews you know I love strong women. Well, Maya Rodale has written one of the best characters I’ve read in a long time. Prude Prudence has lived through an ordeal that cripples a lot of women and yes she was damaged but managed to persevere. Then she meets John Castleton and he is really there for her, protecting her when she has long since given up on anyone coming to her aid. His guilt at not sharing his secrets when she finally has the courage to share hers and fight back is a wonderful read. Don’t miss it.

He’s attracted immediately but she is human and not in the best place to start up a relationship herself; having just been dumped by a jerk who was using her while tearing down her self-esteem. I love Erin Knightley’s books and I trust her, but I did not see this one working out. I love a twist and this story delivered. Richard Moore, Earl of Raleigh was pretty much a good time party boy in my eyes, while Jane Bunting is hard working, serious and down to earth. Not an immediate perfect pair. But Ms. Knightly weaves an impressive story that showed me again what a great writer she is. Highest recommendation, and have a package of your favorite cookies near at hand.

Viking Dark Hunter Wulf Tryggvason takes center stage in this book. Remember him from Talon’s story? No one else does and that’s part of his problem. No one can remember him, until he meets Cassandra Peters, part Apollite and thus an automatic hated enemy. Wouldn’t you know? But he’s given the task of protecting her from none other than Acheron himself, so what’s a Dark Hunter to do? Those guys need someone in their lives–haven’t we proven that? Nice to see Talon, Kyrian and Zarek again. Really enjoying this series.

Suzanne Brockman never disappoints me. These were mostly new characters, hi to Deb and Yashi, but Ian Dunn fits nicely into the group of Seals I’ve come to know and love from Ms. Brockman. Phoebe Kruger grew on me as the story progressed. Personally, I liked all the subplots as well and wouldn’t mind spending some more time with these guys. Brockman is an auto-buy for me!

I’m very familiar with Erin Knightly and Tessa Dare and love them, but was less familiar with the others. I enjoyed all the stories, I think my favorite new one was One Starlit Night by Carolyn Jewel –it was different and I was surprised by the twist. A lot of fun reads.

Book 5 in the Unbound series by Dianne Duvall is near the top of the series for me. Ms. Duvall likes her vampire attacks on North Carolina campuses and this one was definitely centered around UNCG (which explains a lot actually). Lisette d’Alençon’s story revolves around Zach, a loner. Not one of the Immortal Guardians, Zach is something else, something more and unwelcome around Seth and his family of unsung heroes. But Lisette feels differently about this brooding warrior and hides her attraction even from the all-knowing Seth until it’s almost too late. Great book and great series – check it out!

Thoroughly enjoyed Aubree and Booker. Aubree wants to be perfect and is willing to sacrifice a lot to be just that. Booker is one of the unholy Outlaw triplets (and I do feel for these guys’ mother). I was a little surprised at what these people had accomplished one year out of high school, but it’s fiction and a lot of fun. Gonna have to follow Zoe on to the next one and see what she’s up to there. Fun read.

The fact that he’s immortal and without anyone to count on makes for a long and lonely light. He’s been condemned to death by Artemis because of transgressions that may or may not be his fault. Astrid, sister of the Fates has been given the task of judging him to determine if he should be condemned or not. Fortunately she wants the job done right and doesn’t allow him to push her away as he has everyone else. When an even stronger foe from his past emerges, he finds himself willing to fight for someone else and maybe find a reason to live. Zarek is such a lonely soul and I feel for everything he has gone through and believes about himself. Sherrilyn Kenyon has drawn a very real character you’ll want to know.

Samara is a Klutz with a capital K and voice like an angel. It’s only when she’s performing that the rest of her relaxes. But she’s used to making a fool of herself (in her mind) and accepts it when she meets Nathaniel the new guy at the temple. He’s divorced with a daughter and pretty reticent to talk about himself. He doesn’t want to be the center of gossip or interest. So of course the person who seems to bring attention to herself (wanted or not) is attracted and vice versa with the person who wants the least attention. They get to know one another around the play that Samara has written for the Purim holiday and learn their roles can lead them to a new discovery. In addition to enjoying a great romance, I learned about a Jewish tradition that was new for me. I’m looking forward to more from Jennifer Wilck.

I’ve been waiting for this one. Discovery of Witches is one of my favorite books. The second one was good, but this one is back up to the excellence of the first. Diana Bishop, a witch and Matthew Clairmont, a vampire have fallen in love and married, but that’s only the beginning (see book 1). They’ve been on the search for a cure for Matthew’s blood rage and the Book of Life, as well as answers to Diana’s now emerging powers. Deborah Harkness has woven all the creatures, witches, vampires, demons and humans together in a delicious story that you should read. Start at the beginning!

I have read quite a bit of YA in the last few years, a lot of it incredibly good, though I didn’t realize that’s what this was going in. I’m glad the genre exists, but I wanted more from this one. Sadie is over a hundred years old and has read everything she can get her hands on from the outside world, even lived there for a couple of years, but still seems to have the angst of a teenager in high school. I would have loved to hear more about the Salem witch trials, that intro into the book was incredible but I wanted more insight on her part after all those years.

I’ve waited years for this book, apparently I read faster than Diana writes and that’s my biggest problem with this book – there’s not another one to plow into. So I can go back to the beginning and do it all again (and watch it on TV) and I will. I love that Jamie and Claire are getting older and are still together, still love each other, still want each other. It’s not all hard muscles and heaving breasts in these books and that may be the best part of all for me. Yes, I remember sweet virgin Jamie from the first book but I feel like I’ve grown older with them and love them more because of it. Come on Diana, I’m ready!

But they are kinda stuck together for a while and he’s not all bad for a kind of vampire. But she needs to get him to trust her and that’s not an easy path for him. When his property comes back “on the market” through Penelope’s dowry he jumps at the chance. No matter that he and Penelope were childhood friends and she has always been a little in love with him, he goes into the marriage with only the property on this mind.
What he doesn’t expect is to develop feelings for his old and only friend. I enjoyed this story. I always lean toward strong women and Penelope has had to be that following her scandal and taking on the burden of her sisters being unable to find good matches due to her scandal. Sometimes I wanted to smack Michael for being obtuse, but I feel that way a lot – LOL. Enjoy!

Cyn Haydn’s latest is different. Ross de Lassy is former spec ops and very good at finding things. He’s left the military and opened his own private investigation firm, but he’s alone.
Nels Kirkegaard is the heir to the family furniture business in Denmark but is taking a year off the find himself before taking the helm from his deceased grandfather. These two men meet and click over the renovation of Ross’s new combined home and business building.
When Nels turns up missing, Ross’s abilities are brought into urgent play to try to retrieve Nels from certain torture – and maybe their relationship will grow because of it. I don’t read much M/M fiction, Ms. Haydn and Suzanne Brockman pretty much cover it, but I’m certainly enjoying what they write. Check it out.

Nancy’s time-traveling Highlander series continues with My Lady Highlander and I was delighted to see Bull again. He’s been one of my favorites from previous books so I was glad he got his own finally. Bull is a reluctant Highlander at best and keeps telling people he’s not one, but actions speak louder than words.
Izzy is one of those strong women I love, and she has powers that are developing. She’s lived in the future for a while, but now she’s back in Scotland in her time and Bull’s along for the ride whether he wants to be or not. This is a fun series – you should check it out.

I’d know them if they walked into my office (Please!!) I did laugh out loud at some of the interviews.

I wasn’t expecting a mystery but it was there. I really felt for Leyla-Jo and the many set-backs in her journey. But she does not flinch – you’ll enjoy this intriguing sequel.

These are fascinating layered characters on their own, but what Katherine does to them . . . Trust me, if you read historical, you need to check this one out.

I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Go ahead and read, you’ll learn something about yourself as well.

I like mature couples, people who had lived together and know one another, people that have grown together and are willing to keep trying even when a relationship is hard. This book hit all those marks. Gavin and Ray have been married all of Gavin’s military career. That hasn’t made it any easier for her or the family they’ve grown. It’s time for both of them to see what that military career has shaped within their family. A perfect read for Memorial Day.

Ms. Chaffin has done it again. She gets inside of the heads of her characters and you know how they feel. She brought me right back to small town living (and reminded me why I left!) Jesse, the saint of Skitter Lake isn’t what everyone remembers, or wants to, and Tim the boy from the wrong side of the tracks can’t compete with that. Trying to clear his name, Tim runs up against old prejudice and memories so engrained as to be gospel. Only a few are willing to listen, much less believe, but how can he leave Dorothy again. Thank you, Char for an excellent read. You’ll enjoy it.

It’s no wonder they end up serving community service together. And get to know one another as no one else has. These characters were full and real and I understood them. You’ll enjoy this one.

Okay, I came in at the middle, but it took no time to realize I want more of this series. Caroline’s a non-shifter in a shifter world and she’s learned to look after herself and the shifters around her. She’s on her own now that her wolf part-time mate has sniffed out his forever mate and she’s looking around. The problem is, there’s a bear council summit meeting in town and one of the alpha bears has caught her eye and vice versa. Tyler is that bear and he’s not interested in a long-term relationship, he thought.
I laughed out loud at parts. Yes, more of the Takhini Wolves series is in my future.

It was fun. Jack (Jacinth) the space trader is really looking for her sister who was taken into slavery. She’s been searching for years and has finally tracked her down on a planet that Jack can’t visit alone. Enter Cat (Carkdacund) a slave Jack purchases to act as her master on said planet. I admit I laughed out loud at parts – whether I was supposed to or not and just enjoyed myself. The twist about the planet brought to mind The Gate to Women’s Country by Sheri S. Tepper and that’s a great thing. Kick back and enjoy.

Third of the Divergent series and not my favorite. In the two previous books we saw the action from Tris’ point of view. In this last book, she moved back and forth between Tris and Tobias. The problem was I didn’t always know which POV I was in. More than once I had to go back to the chapter heading to figure out who I was reading. That kept taking me out of the story. Also, I considered this to be a romance, even though it’s YA. One of the hard and fast rules for romance, as I understand them are a happily ever after or happily for now ending… I did enjoy the first two in the series.

I’ve followed Cyn’s Aurelia series and love it. I’m used to her supernatural work, so I’m delighted to find out she also writes historical. Edwina Webb has inherited her father’s shipping business, but in the 19th century, that’s not necessarily an easy thing. Her deception to keep her newest client, Alexandre Marshall in the dark works to both her advantage and disadvantage. I’m unfamiliar with the history of Brazil but Cyn makes it come alive. Highest recommendations for this newest series.

I’m going to finish the series, and hope the third book brings me back to where the first one took me.

My daughter led me to this one. I’d heard about it, but wasn’t sure I wanted another YA trilogy. I’m glad I read it now – it’s more Hunger Games, thank goodness than Twilight. Tris is one confused young girl, not surprising with the rigid society she’s in. Her drastic change from one segment of society to it’s opposite is a little jarring but it works. Four is the character I’m drawn to and I want to learn more about his background in the next book. Yes, I’m going to read them all now. Veronica hooked me.

This is a YA book about Jax, a young witch who wants to escape her coven (i.e. father) and runs to the mountains of North Carolina to hide. So of course the first guy she runs into is a hunter, Keller. I’ve never thought of witches as evil so her coven caught me off guard – a twist I wasn’t expecting and I enjoyed that. A lot of teenage angst, but that’s what so many YA books are about. The world Trish Milburn has created had a lot of intriguing areas and I plan to follow Jax on to the next book.

I couldn’t let the season go without a Christmas regency and this one hit all the marks. Finn is attending a friend’s wedding and hardly in the mood to be reminded of Cece, the young girl who had caused him so much embarrassment with a stolen, and very public kiss, years ago. He’d given no thought to her embarrassment. Cece never expected Finn to be at the wedding. She’s lived with her public humiliation and the jokes for so long she’s almost convinced herself she cares nothing for Finn any longer. Until they see each other. A wonderful Christmas story. Indulge yourself!

The Meat Market by James Chalk

I’m a science fiction ho and this fed right into my loves. Humans have spread out through the universe after destroying our planet ecologically. This was a new storyline for me, and frightening. I’ve read about cloning but to juxtapose this use for clones with a super religious colony was genius. It hit all the right notes with me and I want to read more adventures of Jonathan Harkon, his ship Mary Rose and of course his “cat”. If you read sci fi, you’ll enjoy this one!

Okay this one is in a slightly different genre for me. I’m considered a ‘vanilla’ but it did not decrease my pleasure at this book. Cassie and Tom have been married a long time and have that steadiness in their relationship you often miss with younger couples. She’s more than a little spicy and he’s what she needs to ground her. I might not agree with everything, but it works for them and I think you’ll get a kick out of it (her!) too. Enjoy!

Didn’t realize I’d read 22 Anita Blake books. I did like the new unknown disease and to find out we had a real zombie apocalypse going, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. The people in charge needed to be in a hurry yet there was time for arguments and debates, even before the sex. There are times for these arguments but not when daylight is burning. But I will be back for the next one – Anita does that to me.

Joyland by Stephen King

Steve King can still do it for me. I’ve been following him longer than I’ve been married and he just keeps getting better. He’s mellowed a little from when I began reading him (under the covers with the lights on) and I appreciate it – these characters are well developed and real. The story of one young man’s summer job in a very different environment felt nostalgic to me. Never miss an opportunity to learn something new and maybe help someone along the way. Read it, you’ll like it.

I had the privilege of reading this book prior to its release. Tobias is a new author but his voice is clear and strong. I read for pleasure (as you can tell) but this book also made me think. I don’t know how to categorize this book – philosophy, religion, even coming of age – maybe all three, but it does give you pause and a new slant on those areas.

When Johnny helps rescue Chelsea from muggers he had no idea what he’d gotten himself into. She’s the practical, all business, no romance one and he can handle that – for a while. Sit back and enjoy a really fun romance.

What a time to pick up this book – I really didn’t realize when I did it. 50 Years ago today I was sitting between Chipper and Hoss, holding hands as our teacher cried and the principal’s voice broke over the intercom. It was my Pearl Harbor, my kid’s 9/11. This book took me where I never thought of going. Of course it is excellent – it is Stephen King – but it’s more than that. The research alone is incredible (which Mr. King acknowledged) and I understand I owe thanks to Joe for the ending. Yes, you should read this book.

Well this one was different. You might know I started reading comic books at the ripe old age of six and still love them. This book took me back there with a tongue in cheek heroic duo. With problems. Anything I say here is a spoiler but believe me, these two have issues to work out. Cacy and Gavin are just two regular young people, barely aware of one another, until a night of star gazing changes everything. Enter super heroes with no instruction book – Karis and the Diz. Sit back, tighten your seatbelt and enjoy!

Oh I was hoping Etienne would get his own book. I’ve wanted to know more about him from the beginning. As one of the younger immortals (only a few hundred years) he’s almost still learning. Krysta and her brother know nothing about the Guardians either, so there’s a pretty steep learning curve ahead. This is one of my favorite series ever. Dianne, what about Seth’s cousin – please don’t leave me here for long . . .

Didn’t know where this story was going and I didn’t like the heroine, which usually stops me in my tracks, but I know Lara (or Tina) so I kept going and she did it again. This is the second book in the Warrior Trilogy. Zahirah, daughter of the master assassin out to murder Richard the Lion Hearted has more secrets than even she knows. Sebastian, a knight who followed Richard on the Crusades, is nearly killed by a secret assassin and during his recovery he meets the mysterious Zahirah. Definitely not a typical romance – try it!

Bastien’s story – I can’t blame Melanie Lipton for falling for the epitome of the bad guy. Maybe he’s misunderstood, but he certainly isn’t trying to make friends. Well, he did create a vampire army and fight against the immortal guardians before he found out the truth about himself. He’s not used to having anyone on his side and Melanie has somehow gotten there. And he’s more than willing to fight even more guardians to fix it so that she stays there. I love this series.

Stacey has issues, and being attracted to her Viking doesn’t make it easy. Again, over 18 material, but the series has me hooked. Enjoy!

This is the first in the box set – The Warrior Trilogy. I’ve heard Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series – this a great look into another side of the author.

This is classic science fiction – and complicated! For most of the book the two main stories are separated but Peter weaves them together, merging characters you had no idea were related and it works. When a North clone is murdered exactly as another North clone was murdered twenty years previously people realize it’s more than coincidence but it is a corporate war or an invasion? You’ll wonder all the way through. If you enjoy sci fi, chose this one.

Ice was melting! Come on, it had to with the heat between Honey and Rafael. From their first fight – I’m talking real physical fight – to their battle of dominance, to working together to save the people she cares about, they were warming up all the way. I’m not just talking about the cigarette I wanted after they were together. Honey is a strong woman and hidden behind a wall of protection she built up since childhood, Rafael does his own hiding behind his reputation as Spanish Stallion (yeah…) but neither seems able to hide from the other. Cherry at her best with T-FLAC. Don’t miss this one.

I rarely stay up late to finish a book (I have rules!) but I stayed up last night and I had not figured it out. I love that in a book. Elena has done it again with her second YA. Rory is torn between two guys – her old crush, Gage and her best friend, Dominic but there’s other problems, bigger ones, around. I admit I’ve forgotten a lot of the angst of this age, when everything was the end of the world, but Elena taps into it seamlessly and you do remember. Dive in and enjoy!

This is a collection of short stories – not something I usually read because I love to really get into the characters of a book. Michael knows how to do this quickly. The stories bordered on sci fi and every one was incredibly written. Michael’s prose had me sucked in from the beginning. I would very much like to be able to write like that when I grow up. Highest recommendation and I can’t wait for that novel! Check it out.

I don’t read a lot of YA, but I make an exception for Rachel Carter and Elena Dillon. This is the second book of The Montauk Project and falls right into place. Lydia has changed the past and now 2012 is wrong and unfamiliar. She’s confused and alone and doesn’t know if she can trust Wes. As she learns more about the project she can only grow more concerned. She learns more about Wes’s past but it certainly doesn’t make things clearer for her. I’m caught up in this story – I need #3.

Larry Niven has done it again – the man that brought you The Mote in God’s Eye, Lucifer’s Hammer and The Legacy of Heorot is back. I’m unfamiliar with Matthew Joseph Harrington but I envy him getting the chance to write with Niven. As usual the science leaves me a little behind (okay more than a little), but the characters make up for it. They are full and rich and fun to be around. I have to wonder why this man is not in charge of our space exploration – really! If you read hard science fiction – don’t miss this one!

Alex has been warned – three women – danger, deceit and desire. If you read Highlanders, you’ll enjoy this one!

But Skye has made so many mistakes in her attempts to save her family from Andreas Borthwick, now it’s time to grow up and admit the mutual attraction between Skye and Jake and help each other to save the ones they love. It’s a great series and Nancy, come on one more???

We met Marcus in the first book – a “friend” of Roland’s if anyone could be and a loner from way back, nursing a broken heart over his lost Bethany. He neither wants nor needs a second to aid him. Yeah, right. Enter Ami, a mysterious woman rescued in Darkness Dawns. We learn about her and what she has endured as we fall in love with the two of them falling in love. Cuddle in and enjoy!

It was amazing. I’ve been reading a lot of romance – all genres – but this took me back to my roots and all time favorite – Science Fiction with romance. It doesn’t get any better. When human Sandrea is rescued from the Bluthen by General Mhartak it sets in motion all kinds of interactions with species unfamiliar. Sandra Harris weaves a complex group of military, civilian and utterly clueless “people” that can’t understand body language, or understand the inner workings of an alien society. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Lucky O’Donlon isn’t getting the reaction he’s used to from a woman and why does she keep slipping and calling him Ken? This unlikely pair get to know each other as only Suzanne does it and I loved it. Had me laughing out loud in places, but the suspense in real. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this obviously but I think one of the things I liked best was the more realistic relationship between Audrianna and Sebastian. She doesn’t have stars in her eyes and expects that love will win out. She’s more pragmatic than that. To me that’s a stronger, more real heroine. She’s more than willing to look after herself. Sebastian has his eyes open as well and has been honest with her – refreshing! These were some of the most 3-dimensional characters I’ve read in a long time. You’ll enjoy it.

Okay, full disclosure, I won this book at the Sizzling Summer Reads and I was charmed out of my shoes. I love Jane – first person can throw me, but not this time. I was right there with her and having a wonderful time. Jane’s mother-in-law, Goldie has to be one of my favorite characters of all time. Jane is a divorcee-widow (read it to make sense) raising her two boys and working for her mother-in-law at Goldilocks, the adult store in Bozeman, Montana. She stumbles into a conspiracy and a hot firefighter and everything ignites. You’ll enjoy this one!

Flowers for Algernon is a science fiction story begun as a short story in 1959 and later turned into a novel. I’m still sitting with it – it was beautifully written but so sad and, unfortunately still hit so many truths even today. I must admit the politically incorrect speech caught me off guard– it’s been a long time since I’ve heard some of the terms that were normal for that time. The narrator is Charlie and he is mentally retarded, but he has friends and people that look after him. After experimental surgery (he is the first human subject) his IQ, like the mouse Algernon, increases exponentially, much faster than his emotional abilities. Through his reports he records his progress and we learn along with him how things really are in and around his life. A classic and well worth the read.

I felt like I was coming home to these characters. This is the third book of the Aurelia series and I think my favorite so far. There’s enough story for two books packed in. Auric and Thoralf are settling into being together when the clan expands exponentially. Twin seal shifters (yes there are two seals on the cover!) adopt them or the other way around, and the Blue Dragon wyvern that lives next door expands as well. New characters and new adventures deepen this story – I’m already clamoring for the next one. You hit it out of the park, Cyn.

I love Mike Turcotte and definitely want to see more of him. I need his back story. I grew up on Easter Island. the pyramids and UFOs. I wish Daddy were here to enjoy these with me. If you’re into conspiracy and ufology, you need to check this out. And it’s only the first one!!

Miranda Steele is a very strong woman, which I like. She’s been through a lot and it’s made her stronger if not completely likeable. Wade Parker is mature enough to put up with her and hopefully strong enough to blunt her harsh edges. I enjoyed the book, how could I not like someone named Steele, but kept being taken out of the story by the editing. A good reading out-loud would have caught 90% of these and I hope she does that in the future.

I like these characters. Celia is a half-breed Comanche, Seth is a Texas rancher. They’ve loved each other since they were young, and a distance of years hasn’t made the difference either thought it had. When tragedy brings they together, Seth is determined that he won’t lose her again. Catherine is a new writer with a strong voice. Her portrayal of the prejudice of the time is spot on. I’ll be watching for her next works.

No spoilers, I don’t do that, but if you’re into Scottish Highlander genre, don’t miss this one.

With neither able to trust anyone, they are called upon to save each other from a mutual enemy and rescue those most precious to each of them.
I enjoyed this. Now I need to go investigate to see if there’s a prequel telling Marcus and Mari’s mother’s story.

This book is hard to classify, except that I really liked it. It took me into places I’m unfamiliar with, which is a good thing. I knew nothing about the subculture of freegans and now I have to go drink some chocolate like the varieties described in this book! The eclectic group of friends that surround, support and are family to Vanessa drew me in as well. The characters are well drawn and 3-dimensional. Wait until you “see” Javier. I can’t remember any books that have given me a glimpse of luchadoras and dumpster diving and home shrines. You’re in a whirlwind of a treat with this one.

Every time I read Mary Margaret I think that hero is my favorite. These guys get under your skin and are as real as flesh and blood. Davy Graziano is perfect – in body, face and mind or is when JJ Caruthers meets him. But that last deployment spoils some things for him. And she’s too embarrassed by their first meeting to look too closely at the changes. But for right now at least, they need each other. Since either have ever needed anyone before, it’s a tough lesson to learn. Don’t miss this one – third in a series you do not want to miss!

I don’t usually head for sweet when I’m picking my heat setting but I did enjoy this one. Addie Caine suddenly finds herself with a ready made family, not to mention a job and a life and no time to get ready to be a parent. Giff Baker is a workaholic who has taken a job for a friend, who isn’t really one. Addie certainly makes a strong impression on their first meeting, and the tale goes from there. A good beach or rainy weekend read.

I really like this series. Maybe it’s because I had seven uncles and an aunt and tons of cousins myself growing up and all but the baby uncle have been or were married over 50 years – he’s close. It all feels so familiar and warm. In A Slower, Lower Leap, Logan, the baby of the family takes on more than he saw coming with a ready-made family and a special one at that. Lizzy doesn’t trust easily, she can’t with what she’s gone through but that Delaney family leaves no one behind. Enjoy!!

Really enjoyed this book. Now if I had any sense I would have seen this was #2 and read it before I read The Bride Wore Pearls, but it was kind of nice knowing what was going to happen – I felt like an insider. Anais de Rohan is my kind of heroine – strong and willing to take chances in the right situation. I admit I had wanted to know more about Lord Bessett since I had “met” him in Pearls, but didn’t have a good sense of him. A wonderful beach read – go for it.

Well I need a shower. Cherry writes the kind of heroine I love – a strong kickass woman who takes no guff. Isis does that for me. Thorne doesn’t know what he’s gotten himself into. The descriptions of Egypt don’t exactly make me want to rush over – hot, dust, thirsty, scorpions, but it all felt like I was there. For an action packed adventure, don’t miss this one!

If you’re looking for erotica or menage – I’ve found your book. There is sex, a lot of it. But what impressed me was the story and fully rounded characters. I’ve read too many stories where the book is only the sex. Sophie goes beyond that and gives you a great read too. I liked her characters and their relationship. I’ll be back for more from her.

Of course most people think AJ’s crazy – there are no ghosts. Unfortunately Alison thinks he’s crazy too. Can AJ save all of them before he’s carted off to the loony bin? You’ll like this one!

This is a departure for me. I read everything, and enjoy fantasy and epic adventures but I was unfamiliar with Chinese folklore. Troy fixed that for me with this engrossing book about three young women with incredible powers that they are unaware of for most of their young lives. This tale begins (I hope!) a series of good versus evil against the an evil emperor of China that has brought all of the nations together, not in peace but through cruelty.
Troy pulled me in and never let go – try this one and learn something completely new. You’ll enjoyt it! And thanks for the glossary at the end, but I waited and read it last!

Just finished Tall, Dark and Dangerous which includes the two books – Prince Joe and Forever Blue. And I can’t tell you which one I enjoyed more. I loved them both. Two very different tales of Suzanne’s incredible SEALs and both thoroughly lickable men.
Joe has to assume the identity of a prince to save his life, as well as the lovely media consultant,Veronica assisting him. Rough, New Jersey Joe has to come off as polished, educated and even more charming than the prince. The scene with Cindy will shatter your heart.
Blue, the southern good ole boy returns to his childhood home to watch his step brother marry his old girlfriend. When the groom is murdered, Blue is set up to take the blame. Good thing the little girl he had helped so long ago, Lucy is a policewoman now.

I love Odd Thomas, I’ve been reading about him since he first hit the stage back in ’07. What I didn’t realize is that I’ve missed several of them and now they’re graphic novels. Who knew. Need to hit to comic book store. In this one Odd has taken refuge in a very different kind of retreat, though no less scary that others he has been drawn to by his ‘gifts’. I got lost a little in the description of Tesla’s machine, but the premise and the characters were as wild as I’ve come to expect from Koontz. You’ll like this one.

The first story – Simply Irresistible – is the story of the middle sister, Maddy, the mousy one. Jax is there to hopefully help bring out the best in her. The second is The Sweetest Thing with the older sister, Tara and her secrets that have kept her from happiness for so long. Ford is there to bring out the best in both of them. Now have to go find Head Over Heels, because I can’t leave the baby sister Chloe hanging without Sawyer!

This is my favorite of Lila’s books so far. Sexy and hot at times, but also a wonderful story of two people who don’t know how to be with someone else. Piper is independent as hell and Alec is, on the surface, your typical horndog Marine. But that’s the surface. Lila lets you into their lives to see what they’re made of. Reminded me of Suzanne Brockman’s stories. I really enjoyed this one.

I really wanted to like this book. It’s a fascinating premise and I read it to the end, but I wanted more. The seas are rising and small band of loosely fitting survivors remain in contact for years. But I wanted to know more about the characters – why had they been thrust together in the first place? In many places I felt as though I were reading a textbook and while I did learn and was able to follow some of the science, I got lost a few times. If you’re into hard science fiction, you need to check it out.
