Why Cakes?

Okay, I broke down and joined Pinterest. Sure, I have loads of free time to spend there. And why haven’t we developed a sarcasm font yet? It made sense to pin books I’ve read (or written) and stuff like that, then I discovered the cakes.

If you’ve ever been to my Pinterest boards (http://pinterest.com/steelestories/) and scrolled all the way to the bottom of my cakes page, you’ll see a rainbow unicorn. It’s a cake, people! I saw that beautiful unicorn long before I joined Pinterest and I was stunned. If you know anything about me, you know I’m not the domestic goddess type. I know (theoretically) what an iron is for and I have a kitchen, it came with the house. But I do not bake and when I have to, I do not decorate with any style. Canned icing is actually quite good, thank you very much.  Sorting hat

Maybe that’s the thing. None of these cakes look like cakes! They’re friggin’ works of art. I could no more cut into one of these and eat it than I could walk to the moon. They’re too beautiful. Thank goodness we took out cable and went to on-line TV.  La Daughter tells me there are TV shows dedicated to this stuff. I could see instant addiction and I don’t have the time.

I know words like fondant now, of course I also know words like lumos and protego or expelliarmus and I get the same results from knowing them. However, I now realize my wedding cake from 30+ years ago was decorated with fondant – it was the first one I’d ever seen and slightly more expensive, but I couldn’t even look at the others after seeing it. Tasted good too.

Okay, you know my secret passion – I like to look at cakes. Thank goodness I prefer to eat pie.

About Donna Steele

Women strong enough for love. I write about strong women in lots of areas - science fiction, paranormal and contemporary fiction romance - women coming into their strength and having the courage to find and accept love. As an empty nester with my beloved best friend and husband (who actually encourages this mad passion of mine) I write all the time – whether or not I have a pen or keyboard handy. Ever since I learned to read—from Superman Comics, Dick, Jane and Sally held no appeal—I’ve wanted to write. The possibilities of science fiction have always drawn me and I’ve read them all. There just needed to be a little more romance in them. I finally got up the courage and I’m delighted that I’m able to share these stories with you. My small town romance novels - Homecoming, Welcome Home, Red Shoes, Nowhere for Christmas, Christmas Present and Dance Partner are available at all eBook vendors. My paranormal romance eBooks Learning Trust, The Melting Series, and Wraith's Heart are now available at all eBook sellers. Wraith's Heart and Learning Trust are now also available in paperback through Amazon. I’m a member of Romance Writers of American, the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal Chapter of RWA and the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers. www.steelestories.com https://www.facebook.com/DonnaSteeleAuthor http://goo.gl/dH6PAA

  1. Oh, Donna. Canned icing is NOT just as good, even if it is quite nice. Mm. I had a friend once who ate frosting straight out of the can.

If it makes you feel better, I’m not exactly sure what a fondant is, either. 🙂

    • LOL! Mine is, but that’s another post. Hubby often eats the leftovers from the can. I looked up fondant – it’s icing that kind of melts over the cake instead of being spread, which is why it’s so smooth.

  2. I’d like to Sectumsempra off a piece of that cake for myself! (hyuck hyuck)

I actually do cakes occasionally and the ones on Pinterest make me want to just throw in the towel. They’re just too amazing!

    • LOL! I know, though I would never attempt anything I’ve seen except maybe that blueberry one. It looks like a cake and something a muggle could do.
