About Donna Steele

Women strong enough for love. I write about strong women in lots of areas - science fiction, paranormal and contemporary fiction romance - women coming into their strength and having the courage to find and accept love. As an empty nester with my beloved best friend and husband (who actually encourages this mad passion of mine) I write all the time – whether or not I have a pen or keyboard handy. Ever since I learned to read—from Superman Comics, Dick, Jane and Sally held no appeal—I’ve wanted to write. The possibilities of science fiction have always drawn me and I’ve read them all. There just needed to be a little more romance in them. I finally got up the courage and I’m delighted that I’m able to share these stories with you. My small town romance novels - Homecoming, Welcome Home, Red Shoes, Nowhere for Christmas, Christmas Present and Dance Partner are available at all eBook vendors. My paranormal romance eBooks Learning Trust, The Melting Series, and Wraith's Heart are now available at all eBook sellers. Wraith's Heart and Learning Trust are now also available in paperback through Amazon. I’m a member of Romance Writers of American, the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal Chapter of RWA and the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers. www.steelestories.com https://www.facebook.com/DonnaSteeleAuthor http://goo.gl/dH6PAA

Cover Reveal! – Before You

Before-you-flat-med-reso

When Jocelyn decides to take a two-week vacation away from the chaos of the city and work, she expects to just relax and enjoy. Instead, after taking an impromptu exit off the highway the car quits and she’s stuck in some Podunk town in nowhere North Carolina. But the scenery is great – especially the guy who tows in her car.

Noah is helping his cousin out for the afternoon at the garage and is more than pleasantly surprised when the city girl shows up needing help. More help than either realizes.

Neither can foresee what drew her to that exit or what they will uncover trying to discover what has her terrified in the woods behind his home. But they will do it, together.

I decided to create a Pinterest page of inspirations for this story – you’re welcome to visit!  Before You

It’s Been a Year!

Yep, retirement is still everything I always hoped it would be. I consider it one of the top decisions I ever made, with marrying Hubby #1. Of course, I had a plan and I followed it. Retirement pic 1

I got my dream – to write full time. And it has been all I thought it would be. I’ve self-published three books and sold one to Soul Mate Publishing. I’ve got a couple others in various states of completion.

After a year I admit it’s even now a thrill to get up and not have to go anywhere or get “dressed.” I swim for 30 minutes, then head to my office. The working atmosphere is really great, no one to annoy me or interrupt me and I get so much more done.

Hubby will retire on the first anniversary of my retirement and that’s going to add a whole new dimension to things but I think my routine is pretty well set. From 7 a.m. to Noon, stay out of my way – that’s when I hibernate in my office and write.

retirement piic 2 But other things get to happen now as well – we go visit the Grandkidlet every 6-8 weeks. Just walk out the door and go and not have to worry about getting back at any specific time or day. I continue to clean out the house so I don’t leave my kids what my parents left me (remember that process turned into a novel – Homecoming).

I know I was lucky – very supportive hubby, pension, and so far, health. My mother worked until she was 80 – not that she had to, she wanted to and she did sleep with the boss for 55 years. That isn’t me. I wanted out, wanted time to do something for me and I do appreciate it. Thanks for celebrating this anniversary with me and I hope you continue to drop by!  happy birthday

AND – Don’t forget to also comment on the April Again blog for the boxes of books I’m giving away to downsize!!

April Again!

It’s almost April!! I know, we get one every year but it’s my favorite month – I have a birthday and a wedding anniversary (my 37th!! this year). And this year, we’re downsizing to move to a condo – less work than maintaining over an acre of lawn and less space to hoard stuff.

As part of this celebration, I have a lot of books to share to good and loving homes. I’m not just talking the books I’ve written, I have tons of books gifted to me at conferences and workshops and I need to see them safely settled for when I move.

Therefore I’m giving away three bundles of books – one of contemporary romance – Quinn, Novak, Neggers, one of historical romance – McLean, Hoyt, Nash, and of course one of paranormal romance – Singh, DePaul, Green – not to mention others.

boxes of booksJust make a short comment here on the page (see that red stamp at the top) – mention which bundle you’d be most interested in and Hubby (who is delighted to make room in the house) will draw names from three hats to help me downsize.

You’re welcome to sign up for my blog posts and follow me at Goodreads, Twitter,  Amazon  and Facebook as well.

Hope you have a wonderful Spring, aren’t allergic and find time to settle back with a glass of wine and a book you’ve rescued and will give a forever home. Thanks!

Meet Linda O’Connor

Linda is one of my new friends at Soul Mate Publishing – come say hi!

Donna, thank you so much for hosting me on your blog!!

* You are going to be new to many of my readers. Tell us about yourself.

Hi, I’m Linda O’Connor. I live in Ontario, Canada and live in a house on the water – and love looking out at the waves when I write. I balance writing with my work as a physician at an Urgent Care Clinic and being a mom to three sons (luckily grown and capable of throwing together a decent meal, in a pinch).

* Tell us about the book that’s just come out.  PerfectlyPlannedFlat2_850

My latest book is Perfectly Planned, Book 3 in the Perfectly Series. When I wrote the first book, Perfectly Honest, I knew I wanted to have more books in the series that would be based on spin-off characters from the first. In the first book, Chloe has an accident and that’s what starts the cascade of events for Mikaela and Sam. In Perfectly Reasonable, Book 2, Chloe shows up more often because she works with Margo. During one of their breaks, Chloe mentions that she’s looking for a sperm donor – and the premise for the third book was born!

* What started you on your love of writing?

Working with young adults! I’m a physician and I had the idea to try to incorporate medical advice into a romance novel. There were some basics I thought patients should know – mental health symptoms, birth control myths, how to take ownership of their health. I thought hey, if David Chilton of The Wealthy Barber fame can dole out financial advice in a barbershop, maybe I could dole out medical advice in a romance novel. I hoped it would be a little bit more appealing than the myriad of educational posters in my office! I’m really enjoying using my medical knowledge in a new way. I hope that readers will laugh, relax, enjoy the stories I’ve written, and maybe learn something too!

* Do you write in more than one genre – tell us a little about each one and the books you’re working on in each?

I’ve published three books in the Perfectly Series and they’re all contemporary romantic comedies. I’ve written a few short stories with a twist in the tale, but generally for novels, I’ll be sticking with romantic comedies. I love to laugh, so it’s fun being in a romantic comedy headspace for the time I spend writing.

Perfectly Reasonable* Have you attended any writing conference or classes? Tell us about some that and some that have been especially helpful.

I attended my first RWA Conference in NYC last summer. I met some wonderful authors, and it’s been fun to keep in touch and help promote their work through social media. I’ve taken a number of online courses – all really helpful. The editing courses with MM Pollard are amazing – she has a Yellow Highlights Workshop on Mechanics where she not only edits your work, but also includes resources to explain the rules behind the correct grammar or punctuation. Excellent learning experience!

* Are you a member of any writing groups?

No, I’m not. I recently became a critique partner with Stephanie Berget, author of Radio Rose, Sugarwater Ranch, and Gimme Some Sugar. That’s been fun!

* How attached do you get to your characters? Do you know what happens after the book ends?

I really enjoy my characters – I spend so much time with them! I do envision what happens after the book ends – and generally there’s a lot less conflict! 😀 Actually, when I started writing Perfectly Reasonable, Book 2 in the Perfectly Series, I realized that I needed it to be a prequel to Perfectly Honest, Book 1. And then Perfectly Planned, Book 3, ended up being in between the other two in the series time-wise. So, not only do I know what happens after Books 2 and 3, but so do my readers. I was thinking of writing a series of blog posts about what happens after Book 1 because a number of readers have said they’d like a peek into Mikaela and Sam’s future (and to know what kind of car Trace drives!)

* Describe your ‘perfect’ writing day.  Perfectly Honest

Get up. Eat breakfast. Write until noon with a Skittle break at 10:30 a.m. Eat lunch. Write until 3 p.m. and get 4000 sublime, no-need-to-edit words done. Go for a bicycle ride. Swim. Share a healthy dinner with my family that someone else has cooked. Go to Zumba. Shower. Spend the evening at book club with my friends. Sleep and dream of the next chapter before waking completely refreshed. Hahahahaha.

* Could you tell us the one question you wish people would ask about your writing… and don’t forget the answer.

I wish people would ask: “I’d love to buy your book – where can I get it?” I would say, “Why, how lovely, thank you. It’s available online and actually, I have print copies.” (I don’t admit it, but you know, I carry them with me everywhere – in my car, in my gym bag, have a few extras at home . . . I’m always happy to spread the cheer!)

Bio – Linda O'Connor author

Linda O’Connor started writing a few years ago when she needed a creative outlet other than subtly rearranging the displays at HomeSense. It turns out she loves writing romantic comedies and has a few more stories to tell. When not writing, she’s a physician at an Urgent Care Clinic (well, even when she is writing she’s a physician, and it shows up in her stories 😀 ). She hangs out at www.lindaoconnor.net.
